PRODUCTION NOTE
Manu being the lone survivor of Deluge denotes the turmoil at one time or another in each person’s life. Hope is the first ray of hope in his life and Shraddha (faith) the embodiment of faith to survive. Action to its other extreme leads Manu to merciless killings and when Shraddha tries to stop him, he deserts her. Manu not being satisfied with the success of his action looks for high pastures and most often falls into the inevitable trap of lust, passion and greed for the material. His ability to harness fruitfully means such as labor to spread prosperity makes him drunk with success. He then tries to physically possess Ida (intelligence). Class conflict, discord and despair spread. Manu's downfall is by a supernatural power, which sounds for him a note of caution. Here again, it is Shraddha who comes and helps him attain complete renunciation in the form of Anand.
The philosophy of the story of Manu, Shraddha and Ida denotes Mind, Faith and Intelligence respectively. It shows in Manu, the pivotal character, a struggle between the ideal and the real, faith and logic, fact and fantasy, emotion and intellect, until his conflict is resolved through attaining a complete equilibrium of knowledge, action and desire.
When Shraddha helps Manu to reach renunciation, the producer has used the idea of Kundalini Chakras for reaching higher levels of spiritual consciousness. Here, along with the poetry of Jai Shankar Prasad, the dance, music and lighting transform themselves and the audience into the sublime. |
